Immediate opening for a qualified Electrical Engineer with a strong interest in analog and digital design.

Manages and participates in the design and development efforts of the engineering team on multi-disciplinary projects for fluorescence and biomedical instrumentation involving the use of light sources and detectors. Independently evaluates and applies engineering principles to fulfill project objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experienced in PCB layout, construction and test techniques.
  • Experience with microcontroller and DSP hardware design techniques.
  • Experienced in digital logic circuit design using micro-controllers, DSPs, CPLDs, FPGAs, etc...
  • Experience in small signal analog conditioning circuitry design and the application of A/D and D/A’s.
  • Embedded programming experience in Assembler, VBASIC, C, C++, and VHDL languages.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Develop system level design input (specifications) for the electrical and electro-optical systems in instrumentation products.
  • Apply electrical engineering expertise to develop instrument system architecture and resolve complex issues.
  • Manage and/or lead the design effort of major electrical/electro-optical subsystem.
  • Directly apply expert knowledge in electronics and electro-optics to execute overall project assignments.
  • Interact closely with software, systems, mechanical, and electrical engineering functions to develop comprehensive solutions to design problems.

ISS instruments are installed worldwide in Universities, Research Institutions, Pharma and Biotech companies; they drive the research and the advancement in the Life Sciences and Material Sciences.

Opportunity

A new opportunity based at our headquarter in Champaign, Illinois, for a Microscopy Applications Scientist to join the ISS Team and perform a wide range of responsibilities involving the Laser Scanning Microscopy (LSM) line, including instrument demonstrations, sales support, in house and on site customer training, in house and onsite customer support, and development of new methods.

  • Perform and assist in the production of manuals, marketing materials and other relevant documentation.
  • Participate in and assist with scientific trade shows, conferences and user meetings.
  • Visit active LSM sales opportunities with Sales team for technical presentations and discussions.
  • Assist Sales team in closing LSM orders.
  • Maintain the instruments in the demo laboratory in peak performing condition.
  • Product presentation at conferences and trade shows.
  • Perform or assist in instrument demonstrations. Performs or assists in training sessions, both in house and in customers’ laboratories which may include class room teaching and hands-on instrument training.
  • Perform customer support which includes phone coverage, travel to customer laboratories to deliver on-site support and assistance through the applications hotline.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

The core competency of an Applications Scientist is Microscopy. The candidate needs to be familiar with various aspects of the technique and stay informed on its developments.

  • Ph.D. in the chemistry, physics, life Science, or related areas is a prerequisite for this position.
  • Minimum 3 years experience focusing on time-resolved confocal microscopy within a life sciences or material sciences work environment with hands on instrumentation, advanced troubleshooting, scientific thinking, and teaching skills.
  • Proven ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the confocal microscopy systems in good condition, perform installations and repair.
  • Willingness to be mentored by experienced scientists with demonstrated ability to learn and contribute to the development of new technologies.
  • Willingness to learn about and master unfamiliar and new applications and fields of research.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication, composition, and presentation with proven ability to read and write at an advanced scientific level, prepare marketing materials and deliver presentation on applications and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows operating systems with advanced ability to create documents in MS Word, presentations in MS PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive work relationships with people at all levels.
  • Highly self- motivated individual with a strong work ethic, experience with high performance teams in a global, multi-cultural organization, and demonstrated excitement for new challenges and opportunity.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and positive business relationships.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with ability to prioritize and manage differing time constraints.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete position training requirements.
  • Valid Driver License in good standing, issued by resident state required.
